Congratulations to Lou Knigge, Rutherford Outstanding Citizen 2012!

The Rutherford Community/Quality of Life Committee has selected Lou Knigge as the recipient of the Rutherford Outstanding Citizenship Award for 2012.

Mr. Knigge was nominated for this award by his neighbor, Amy Bolliger. Following is her submission:

Louie is a major reason why my family and I love living in Rutherford as much as we do. He is an incredible neighbor & friend. He goes out of his way to help his fellow neighbors. I have come home from work countless times and he has taken in the trash for multiple people on our block!  If you ever have a pet in need, he is there.  One night, my children were very sick and I didn't even have to ask him to go to Rite Aid on Park Avenue for me to pick up their medications.  He drives elderly Rutherford citizens to doctors’ appointments, and whenever he meets someone who is lonely & free on a Saturday night, he takes them out to the Meadowlands. My family is always looking for the perfect gift to give Louie for all he does for us. We've given him lotto tickets, chocolates, and gift certificates to restaurants in town, but nothing ever seemed to be enough to us because he gives of himself constantly, even when he is not feeling well himself.  I believe this award would be the perfect way to recognize Louie's incredible neighborly ways - making Rutherford and our neighborhood just an amazing place to raise our
family.

The Community/Quality of Life Committee sought nominees who contributed to Rutherford's exceptional quality of life and went above and beyond in their contributions to the betterment of the Borough of Rutherford...in ways big or small. Committee members think Rutherford is a great town, and wanted to recognize one of its residents for making it an exceptional place to live. Lou definitely contributed to Rutherford's exceptional quality of life; he's always doing 'new' things to make his neighborhood a great place to live; he encourages strong pride in Rutherford; makes Rutherford an exceptional place to live; and helps his fellow Rutherfordians.

Mr. Knigge was presented with a certificate at the Rutherford Council Meeting on January 22, 2013. Mayor Joseph DeSalvo and Rutherford Council Members joined committee members Carolyn Smith, Christine Eustice, and David Pasquale in presenting Mr. Knigge with this award and thanking him for his contributions. Councilwoman Kimberly Birdsall serves as Council Liaison to the Community/Quality of Life Committee.
